Lachlan Johns broke Clint Tomlinson's long standing junior club record of 203 when he posted an unbeaten 250 against Subiaco Floreat on Saturday 27th February 2016 at Iluka Open Space. After a slow start with his first 10 runs coming from 30 deliveries, he then dominated the strike and the attack by blasting the Subiaco Floreat bowlers all around the ground. His 250 not out came from 206 deliveries, 216 minutes and hitting 25 fours and 9 sixes. He was well supported through his innings by Luke Mackay (31) and Brayden Lim (29), with the team easily passing Subiaco Floreat's total of 139, making 4/363 from the allotted 60 overs.A truly remarkable innings and a pleasure to watch.
Jacob Oskam scored a sensational 99 in our semi-final against Rockingham-Mandurah on the weekend. Chasing a big score of 156 the Centurions needed a big innings from one of our batsmen. Well in stepped Jacob. Coming to the crease with the score on 1/23.
He batted with poise and maturity beyond his years. Playing with controlled aggression Jacob continually hit the bad balls for boundaries and turned the good balls into ones and two’s. The Rockingham-Mandurah bowlers had no answer to Jacob’s masterful stroke play, superior fitness, exceptional running between the wickets and rock solid concentration and determination.
Jacob saw the Centurions over the line to record our first victory of the season and then he went after his maiden century. I am certain on any other day Jacob would have hit his hundred but with bad light and a few other distractions Jacob fell agonizingly short. Remember his name because he will certainly become a star of the future.
The inaugural player of the week award goes to Keegan Finn. Keegan is captain of U15's Joondalup and scored an unbeaten 110no against Mt. Lawley last week.
He was also selected to make his debut for 4th Grade at the weekend. He is showing great leadership qualities as captain and always displays a positive attitude at training and on match days. Well done Keegan!
